BT AND SYMANTEC PARTNER TO PROVIDE BEST-IN-CLASS ENDPOINT SECURITY PROTECTION
Customers to benefit from an integrated cyber defence with the most effective endpoint security solution on the market
BT, one of the world’s leading providers of communications services and solutions, and Symantec, the world’s leading cyber security company, today announced the availability of new endpoint protection solution for BT’s business customers.
Symantec’s best-in-class endpoint security technologies have been added to BT’s broad portfolio of security products and services to help customers battle the rapidly changing threat landscape with a consolidated, intelligent security infrastructure.
In the UK, Symantec endpoint protection has also been launched as a cloud-based service, tailored exclusively for BT’s small and medium-sized enterprise (SME) customers.
Approximately half of all SMEs in the UK have fallen victim to a cyber security attack, according to a recent Government survey. The new solution from BT safeguards SMEs from rising levels of cyber-crime by protecting up to three devices per licence, including PCs, laptops, smartphones and tablets, with daily updates to mitigate against new, emerging threats. It also includes a firewall and antivirus software to block malicious web traffic and malware, while anti-spyware protects against data theft.
Called BT Device Protection, the new business-grade security service is available for BT’s business broadband customers to purchase via the BT Business app store, while one licence is bundled free with BT’s premium business broadband services.
With advanced technologies such as machine learning, memory exploit mitigation, file reputation analysis, and real-time behaviour monitoring, Symantec’s technology also provides real-time threat protection, even against unknown threats, so-called ‘zero-day’ attacks and ransomware.
Mark Hughes, CEO, BT Security, said: “SMEs are just as vulnerable to cyber-attacks as larger enterprises, and as the powerhouse of the UK economy, they need more protection from the rapidly evolving cyber-crime industry. By adding Symantec endpoint protection to our already broad security portfolio, we are further extending our ability to help our customers stay secure in the face of growing cyber threats. It is an integral part of our shared commitment with Symantec to help organisations of all sizes stay secure as they build on their digital future.”
Mike Fey, president and COO at Symantec said: “Enterprises large and small are facing a perfect storm with a growing attack surface, intensifying regulatory scrutiny and an increasingly sophisticated cyber kill chain. Today’s attacks are multi-faceted, multi-staged and the endpoint is one of the most critical vulnerabilities. Responding to this rapidly evolving threat landscape requires an integrated cyber defence strategy, with best-in-class systems that can work together, becoming greater than the sum of their parts. In continuing to grow the Symantec capabilities offered within BT’s security portfolio, BT’s business customers will be able to build and benefit from the most comprehensive security platform in the market.”
Symantec Endpoint Protection joins nine Symantec solutions available to BT’s UK and global customers. Customers can deploy and manage Symantec products from a unified management console.
Notes to Editors:
In 2016 alone, Symantec’s global intelligence network reported a 36 per cent increase in ransomware attacks, a 105 per cent increase in mobile-malware detections and identified just under 4,000 zero-day vulnerabilities. Today Symantec defends over 175 million endpoints with up-to-the-minute insight from the world’s largest civilian intelligence network. Operating nine Global Threat Response Centres, Symantec tracks over 700,000 threats every day.
